History

In 1957 a petition was started to form a fire department on the west side of Spartanburg. The petition passed and in 1958 the Westview-Fairforest Fire Department was formed by Act 1195 of the General Assembly of South Carolina.
The first station was built on the existing location of Station 1.  Two rail car tanks filled with compressed air were used as the first alert system to signal volunteers of a call. The number of whistles determined the general area of the incident.

Renovations were made to Station 1 in 1978

to add more apparatus bays and living

 quarters.

Further renovations were made to Station 1 in 1983. New apparatus bays were built and the old bays were enclosed and converted to a shop bay, a training room, and storage area.

Station 1 was demolished in June 2005.

Construction is underway to rebuild the

station at the existing location and will

hopefully be completed by the summer of

 2006.

On April 26th 1998, ground was broken for WFFD Station 2.
