B-Shift and WFFD
would like to thank the following departments for their much needed
help suppressing a brush fire on Sun. Aug. 19th.
Una F.D., North
Spartanburg F.D., Startex F.D., and Duncan F.D.
These departments
provided manpower, brush trucks, and tankers to help extinguish a
brush fire located on Cedar Crest Rd. in WFFD Sta. 3's first due
area.
The S.C. Forestry
Commission responded with a bulldozer to cut a fire break.
The Spartanburg
City Fire Department (Engine 4) stood by for other calls in the
WFFD
district during the incident.
According to the
S.C. Forestry Commision approx. 1.4 acres of wooded area burned. 2
residential structures were threatened and 2 outside structures were
burnt to the ground.
Thank you again
to these departments and to the WFFD volunteers who responded!

B-Shift
had just finished lunch on Thurs. July 26th when the alarm
sounded for a MVA w/Entrapment on I-26E at the 24mm. Engine
1 and 2, Service 1, and Rescue 3-2 responded. Upon arrival,
Service 1 (Asst. Chief Williams) was command. One pt. was
found to be in the car sitting in the drivers seat. The pt.
was entrapped due to the roof post on the drivers side
pinning the pt. arm to the ground. The vehicle was
stabilized and the Hurst Spreader/Cutter Como Tool was
pulled from S-1 to cut the convertible roofs support bars.
The roof structure was then removed and the pt. was removed.
R3-2 transported the pt. to Spartanburg Regional Medical
Center |

B-Shift
responded with Engine 1 and Service 1 to Whispering Pines
Apartments early Sat. morning, July 21st for what dispatched
advised was a "possible MVA''. Upon arrival of S-1 (Lt.
Massey) there was an MVA found for sure. The van in the
photos hit two cars in the parking lot before hitting the
apartment building. The cars were not occupied but the
apartment was. One resident was sleeping in the bedroom the
van hit. The resident was very lucky to not be seriously
injured. She was transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical
Center complaining with only shoulder pain by Spartanburg
EMS M-1 (R3 was tied up on another call). The driver of the
van was not injured and transported from the scene by SC
Highway Patrol. S-1 & E-1 remained on scene until the van
was moved to check and make sure the building was as stable
as it could be. |

A-Shift was
dispatched to 4130 Sheppard Rd. in the Oak Forest Subdivision around
6:30 a.m. on Fri. morning July 20th. Upon arrival of S-1 (Capt. R.
Grizzle) heavy smoke was showing. E-1's crew pulled a 2" line and
started an interior attack as L-1 laid a 5" supply line to them.
Just after E-1's crew entered the residence the call came from
command to exit the residence and start defensive operations as the
roof of the residence showed serious signs of weakness. Just after
the interior crew exited the residence the roof collapsed. L-1 was
set up to extend the 65' ladder to knock down the fire while other
hand lines were pulled and the fire was attacked from outside the
residence. The origin of the fire was found to be a back porch but
the cause was not determined. No residents or firefighters were
hurt. Three of the family's cat's did not survive the fire. Special
Thanks to the Spartanburg City Fire Department and the Roebuck Fire
Department for assistance given on this fire.

B-Shift battled
this stubborn fire in a trailer at Goodyear Tire & Rubber on June
17th, 2007. The fire was in the front of the trailer and several
methods were tried to extinguish the fire. A second alarm for WFFD
and mutual aid response from Una F.D. (air cascade), Startex and
Duncan F.D.'s (tankers), and Greenville-Spartanburg Airport F.D.
(crash truck with foam system) was needed before a back hoe was
needed to pull the burning material out of the trailer.

June 10th. Upon arrival Ladder 1 found a Ford Mustang fully
involved. The vehicle was close to the residence but there was no
damage to the home.

A-Shift responded
to this vehicle fire in the Planters Walk Subdivision on Monday May
14th. As you can see the vehicle was parked close to the residence
and the vinyl siding started melting from the heat of the vehicle
fire. A-shift extinguished the fire and no other structural damage
was done to the residence.
